In Search of Holy Grails: OH, QB, Shea Moisture, and Yes To

Oyin Handmade Hair Dew, new container and now available in a 33 oz!

OH stands for Oyin Handmade, the honey based hair and skin care products made by the uber cute Baltimore based couple, Pierre and Jamyla Bennu. They are so adorable. Whenever I buy their products, I feel good about supporting such a beautiful black family. (They have two small sons). I had been considering giving up OH, because my vegan aspirant that lives within wants to say goodbye to honey. But when you find what works, you don't want to give it up. I miss my Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner. The bees will just have to forgive me. All in all, I have tried the OH Honey Hemp, Hair Dew, Whipped Pudding, Burnt Sugar Pomade, and Juices. My favorites are the Honey Hemp, Hair Dew, and the Juices. Definitely will be restocking those items soon. (Black Friday!)

QB stands for Qhemet Biologics, a product formulated for dry, coarse (and fine) textured hair, from relaxed to transitioning to fully natural and locs. The founder of that line, I have never seen a picture of. But after much praise for her products, I dipped my toe in the pot via the Castor and Moringa Softening Serum and the Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee. Both I love. And that Ghee is definitely staying in my rotation. My new winning combo for dry or wet twists is coconut oil and CTDG. Love it! The ghee melts tangles away, adds sheen, smells like chocolate (YUM!), and a little goes a long way. I am eager to try other products by QB, including the Burdock Root Butter Cream and perhaps their Amla Oil Nourishing Pomade or the Tea Tree Grapeseed Pomade.

The thing is, I have been in search for some holy grail products. After realizing I had a lot of products, but only liked truly liked five of them (see below), I decided to be honest with myself:
  1. I don't always feel like being a mixstress. I'll mix up some aloe vera juice, water and tea tree essential oil for moisture. I may whip up some Kimmaytube Leave-In every now and then. Other than that, I don't like to mix up products too much. I prefer to buy ready made quality products. Preferably, all natural. I know many naturals will say going all natural with your products is not necessary to maintain healthy, natural hair. But it is what I prefer.
  2. Having online holy grails curbs my PJ'ism. Odd as it is, when my go-to products are only or mainly available only online and in limited physical locations, I am less likely to buy more than I need or to buy on a whim. I don't like to order products off line but every so often. So having holy grail products online helps me spend money more wisely.
So there you have it. My two new favorite natural hair product brands: Oyin Handmade and Qhemet Biologics. Does this mean I will never buy products for my hair in brick and mortar locations? No, not at all. In fact, two other brands that are personal favorites can both be purchased both from Target and Walgreen's. Those brands are Shea Moisture and Yes To. My favorites from each are the Shea Moisture shampoos (Raw Shea Butter and African Black Soap) and the Yes To conditioners. Yes to Carrots and Yes to Cucumbers work just about the same, but the Cucumbers conditioner smells way better.

Final note: Oyin Handmade recently did a makeover of their products. (The containers, not the ingredients). Above is a picture of the Oyin Handmade Hair Dew, in it's new container. And it is now available in a 33 oz. Let the church say amen. I love the Hair Dew. My next OH purchase, I just might be getting both the Hair Dew and the Honey Hemp in the 33 oz containers. Watch me!

And there you have it, my current holy grail products: Oyin Handmade, Qhemet Biologics, Shea Moisture, and Yes to Cucumbers. (Also, the Kimmaytube Leave-In, made with OHHH, when I feel like mixing up).
